Michal “Maggie” Milstein is an author of journalism, creative nonfiction, and fiction. She was an Iowa Arts Fellow and a Teaching Fellow in the University of Iowa’s celebrated Nonfiction Writing Program, where she received her M.F.A. She started the world’s first academic journal dedicated to the study of creative nonfiction (The Essay Review, UIowa) and served as Executive Director of the literary nonprofit Off Assignment (offassignment.org). A dedicated Angeleno, Maggie currently serves as an event host and bookseller for Book Soup and Vroman’s Bookstore, two legendary independent bookstores in the L.A. area.

Maggie’s creative influences include Marc Chagall, Alfred Hitchcock, Robin Williams, Beatrix Potter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ron Hansen, Thomas Mann, Truman Capote, and Eddie Murphy.

Her work has been described as “surprising,” “deeply unsettling,” and “shamefully funny.”
